Step 1: (make sure java jdk-8 is installed)

To install Solr Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.8 or higher is needed.

Check your java version :

$ java -version

If you don't have java installed on your server. Please run the following command in terminal:

$ sudo apt-get -y install openjdk-8-jdk

Step 2: (Install Solr)

Hint: "Search API Solr Search -  7.x-1.12" supports Apache Solr 3.x-6.x. If you are going to use this module, please make sure the Apache Solr version you installed is from 3.x to 6.x

Right now, we can go to the folder that we want to use for storing Solr files. ( I choose /opt as my Solr files' location )

$ cd /opt
$ sudo wget http://www.us.apache.org/dist/lucene/solr/6.6.1/solr-6.6.1-src.tgz

We will install the Solr as a service and run it on the backend.

$ tar xzf solr-6.6.1-src.tgz solr-6.6.1/solr/bin/install_solr_service.sh --strip-components=2
$ sudo ./install_solr_service.sh solr-6.6.1.tgz

After this, the Solr service will run on the server unless you stop it. And the default port is 8983. You could check your Solr dashboard from http:localhost:8983/solr
